Activist’s legal notice to PM
PMANE convenor S.P. Udayakumar has served a legal notice to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh as his statement to a journal on February 24 about the ongoing anti-KKNPP movement “was made with an intention to harm his reputation”.
Citing the Prime Minister’s interview to Science (Vol. 335: Feb. 24, 2012) in which Dr Singh was reported to have said, “What’s happening in Koodankulam, where the atomic energy programme has got into difficulties because the NGOs mostly I think based in the United States.”
Mr Udayakumar complained that this statement was false and made only with a view to informing the public that the protest against KKNPP was going on with the assistance of funds from the US and Scandinavian countries. He claimed that the Prime Minister intentionally made this false statement with an intention to harm his reputation. The noticed hoped that the Prime Minister would immediately make appropriate amends to the statement and not drive him to take recourse to law.
