Actress Ramya’ s house burgled

At least 50 sovereigns of gold ornaments were reportedly stolen from the house of actress Ramya Krishnan in Injambakkam near Neelankarai.

The police, who have detained the domestic help in connection with the theft, said that they have received a complaint from Krishnan, the father of the actress, a couple of days ago saying that nearly 400 gm of gold kept in the bureau was missing.

Krishnan had also told the police that the family sus pects the involvement of Jyothi, a maid employed by the family.

“When Ramya visited the house on Sunday, the maid said she wanted to go to her native place in Andhra Pradesh. The family members told her that they were going out and asked her to wait till they return.However, when they returned they found the maid and the gold missing,” the police said, quoting the complaint from Ramya’s father.

The police on Thursday said that they had traced Jyothi, 23.

“She has been detained. We are questioning her now. She said that she had been stealing the ornaments from the bungalow on Olive Beach Road in Injmabakkam in small quantities,” the police said on Thursday.

“On Sunday, she took whatever gold ornaments were left in the house and left. We are yet to recover the stolen gold,” police said.
