Adamant BJP won’t budge from its stand
The BJP will be launching a “Rashtriya Ekta Yatra” from Kolkata on January 12, which will culminate in Srinagar on January 26, after travelling through various cities. The youth wing of the party will hoist the national flag at Lal Chowk in Srinagar on the Republic Day.
The party claims that the yatra is a part of its campaign for national sovereignty and solidarity.
The BJP flayed Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah’s remark that the party wants to incite violence by hoisting national flag at Lal Chowk and said it need no certificate from the leader who makes “arrogant” statements.
Reacting to Mr Abdullah’s remarks, Leader of Opposition in RS Arun Jaitley said, “BJP maintains that Jammu and Kashmir is an integral part of India. We are going to carry the national flag not in one state but through several states. This is a part of a campaign for national sovereignty and solidarity.” He said the yatra is not aimed at inciting violence.
On Wednesday, BJP chief Nitin Gadkari also set up a study team, headed by former party chief Rajnath Singh, which will interact with a cross-section of people in J&K.
The party said decision to form the study team was taken by Mr Gadkari in view of the special conditions prevailing in Jammu and Kashmir.
The five-member team, which also comprises of senior leaders Ravishankar Prasad and Shahnawaz Hussain, will visit Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions and talk to a cross-section of people before finalising its report.
