Admission rules relaxed for Kashmiris
All state-run educational institutes have been told to reserve seats for children of Kashmiri migrants from the next academic year as already being done in professional courses through the Common Entrance Test (CET).
The institutes have also been directed to relax the deadline for sending in applications and the cut-off percentage to allow more of these students to gain admission in their courses.
The University Grants Commission(UGC), which has come out with the new guidelines to help Kashmiri migrants placed at a disadvantage due to the unrest in their state, has advised the institutes to extend the date of admission for their children by 30 days and increase their annual intake by 5 per cent course-wise.
It has also directed the state governments to waive the domicile regulations for these students to help those of them living in other countries apply for merit seats under the government quota. The state government too has instructed every institution to reserve one seat under merit quota for these students.
