Advani praises Jayalalitha for fight on state rights

Praising Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa for highlighting the issue of Centre-state relations, BJP veteran LK Advani on Sunday slammed the ruling UPA for its 'authoritarian' approach towards states.

He also urged those, who feel like him, to come together and resist the trend.

In his latest blog post Mr Advani said, “Making states strong does not lead to making the Centre weak. We need a strong Centre, but the Centre cannot become strong unless the states become strong.”

The senior leader, while praising her said Jayalalithaa had flagged the issue during a recent meeting of the National Development Council (NDC) where she maintained that she was not sure whether 'the Government of India recognises the states as partners, leave alone equal partners, and res-pects their viewpoint'.

Mr Advani said the same highhanded approach was seen in too many other issues.
