Advocates demand HC bench in coastal AP, stage dharna
Representatives of the Vijayawada Bar Association staged a dharna here on Monday in front of the sub-collector office, pressing their demand for setting up of high court bench in coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Vijayawada Bar Association president Ajay Kumar said it has decided to continue its agitation until November 10 and has planned a “bandh” to garner support for their demand.
Kumar said many states in the country have set up high court benches for the convenience of the public.
Citing the example of Maharashtra, with two benches at Aurangabad and Nagpur, and Madhya Pradesh with benches at Indore and Gwalior, Karnataka at Dharwad and Hubli and Tamil Nadu at Madurai, he said a similar arrangement in AP was needed in any of the coastal districts.
The protesting advocates submitted a memorandum to the minister of animal husbandry K. Pardhsaradhi and other people's representatives who arrived to at the Sub Collector office.
Meanwhile, some advocates continued with their relay hunger strike and two of them are on an indefinite hunger strike in the Bar Association premises.
