Aerial broadcast of cycling, marathon
The Centre has decided to fly helicopters for aerial broadcast of the road events during the Commonwealth Games events such as cycling and marathon. The choppers will be used for live aerial broadcast during the events barring the no-fly areas like Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House and Prime Minister’s residence, government sources said. The closing ceremony of the CWG will also be telecast live from air as choppers are going to be used to get an aerial view of the event.
The decision to allow helicopters to fly over designated roads of cycling and marathon and the stadium was taken at a high-level meeting attended by top home ministry officials and security agencies.
The cycling event will be held on Sunday and marathon and closing ceremony are scheduled for October 14.
Earlier, Commonwealth Games Federation chief Mike Fennell said the aerial shots of Delhi will be a “scenic appearance” and its broadcast all over the world would be a “fantastic” promotion of the city.
Meanwhile, the government is expecting that several heads of states would participate in the closing ceremony. “Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa has confirmed his participation in the closing ceremony. We are expecting several more heads of state’s attendance,” an official said.
