Afzal case: law of land must take its course
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Monday stated that India will get access to 26/11 conspirator David Headley, while on the Parliament attack death row convict Afzal Guru, he stated that the law should be allowed to take its own course.
On the Afzal Guru issue, Singh said the “law of the land” should be allowed to take its course in dealing with the issue of Parliament attack. “There is law of the land. They should be allowed to have their course,” Dr Singh said.
He rejected a suggestion that the delay in the execution had sent a message that India was a soft state when it comes to dealing with terrorism. “It is a matter of perception which can vary among individuals,” he said.
On Headley issue he said, “I have been assured by the highest (authorities) in the US administration that we will get access to David Headley.” A two-member team led by Solicitor-General Gopal Subramanium has already visited the US in April to discuss modalities of gaining access to Headley.
