Agnivesh wants EVM probe
Social activist Anna Hazare and his co-activists Swami Agnivesh here on Friday demanded that electronic voting machines used in the recently-concluded elections in Assam should be examined by an independent panel of expert.
Mr Agnivesh, while addressing the rally against corruption here on Friday, asked the people, “Do you want that EVMs should be investigated?” Referring to the roaring reply of the gathering demanding a probe into the alleged tampering of the EVM machines during the Assam elections, he said, “People have given the verdict.” He said, “I am not saying anything about the verdict of the elections but people want that EVM used for the elections should be examined.” RTI activist Arbinda Kejriwal, who deliberated upon the proposed Jan Lokpal Bill, sought the opinion of the people on the inclusion of the Prime Minister, judiciary and chief election commissioner under the purview of the Jan Lokpal Bill. He alleged that “There are some Congress agents in New Delhi who does not want a powerful Jan Lokpal. They want a toothless Jan Lokpal which should not have the power to investigate charges against the influential class of people.”
He however, asserted that committee on Jan Lopkpal Bill is not going to compromise on such issues. “If necessary, we will go to the people and launch agitation instead of having a toothless Jan Lokpal Bill.”
