AGP begins campaign, targets Cong
The principal Opposition Asom Gana Parishad on Saturday kicked off its election campaign by launching a frontal attack on the ruling Congress, charging them of indulging in rampant corruption in the state.
Resolving to present a united face of the party, the AGP leaders called upon grassroot-level workers to counter the propaganda campaign of the ruling party.
Observing the day as Sankalpa Divas, AGP leader and former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta accused chief minister Tarun Gogoi of encouraging rampant corruption besides spoiling the economy of the state. He accused the ruling party leaders of siphoning off people’s money by taking loans from financial institutions.

‘Akalis using govt funds to project party’

Jan. 29: Taking serious exception to an ongoing government media campaign the Punjab Congress Party has charged that the Akali Dal “is squandering state funds for partisan political purposes”.
Citing recent advertisements and advertorials in local English and vernacular newspapers publicising political rallies by the SAD-BJP, senior Congress functionary Arvind Khanna said, “This is wanton wastage of precious state funds which the Congress is not going to tolerate.”

Meira Kumar Egypt visit postponed

Jan. 29: Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar has postponed the plans to lead an all-party delegation to Egypt in view of the unprecedented protests there. The delegation was scheduled to leave for Cairo on Saturday night, but now the plan stands postponed in the wake of the developments there, Lok Sabha secretariat official said.
Ms Kumar’s visit to Egypt was a four-day affair. The protests in Egypt have claimed at least 27 lives.
Meanwhile, the MEA in a statement has advised Indians against travelling to the Arab country.
It, however, claimed that Indian nationals are safe in Egypt.
