AGP dares Gogoi to probe NC Hills scam
The Asom Gana Parishad on Monday rebuked Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi of trying to blackmail the Opposition by threatening to re-open old cases which they could not prove in past nine years.
Daring the chief minister to re-open the Letter of Credit scam and cases of alleged secret killing of Ulfa family members and sympathisers, former chief minister and AGP leader Prafulla Kumar Mahanta told reporters, “It would have been welcomed by the people also, had Mr Gogoi ordered any enquiry in past nine years into the developmental projects of AGP regime accusing any kind of misappropriation.”
He pointed out, “Mr Gogoi and his party contested two elections assuring the people of the state to book me into the alleged cases of secret killings but he failed to find a single evidence to frame me. As third election is approaching and he himself is in the doc of serious corruption charges, so he seems to have been trying to cover up charges by harping on opening old cases.”
Alleging that Mr Gogoi, himself holding the finance portfolio, is now afraid of getting trapped into the cases of financial irregularities in the North Cachar Hills district, Mr Mahanta said, “We want that central government should intervene and hand-over complete investigation of the NC Hills to the CBI. If inquiry is conducted in present status, it would be an eyewash.”
