AGP nominates Mahanta against high-profile Hussain

GUWAHATI

The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) on Wednesday decided to nominate former chief minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta from a second constituency against one of the most high-profile ministers of the Gogoi cabinet Rockybul Hussain.

Mr Mahanta has already been nominated from Barhampur constituency, but on Wednesday the Asom Gana Parishad announced his candidature from Samaguri in central Assam’s Nagaon district also.
Samaguri, an assembly segment having the domination of minority voters has been in focus.
All India United Democratic Front president Badruddin Ajmal recently announced that if former chief minister Mahanta decides to contest the seat the party would extend unilateral support to ensure the defeat of Mr Hussain.
