Ahead of teso meeting, stalin in delhi
Even as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh declared in the Lok Sabha that India’s stand on the US-sponsored resolution against Sri Lanka at the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) for its alleged war crimes will depend on the text of the draft, DMK’s heir-apparent M.K. Stalin arrived here ahead of the Tamil Eelam Supporters’ Organisation (TESO) conference to be held in the national capital on Thursday.
Tamil parties have been pressing the Union government to take a tough stand against the island nation and vote in favour of the resolution that is all set to call on Sri Lanka to promote reconciliation and ensure accountability, apart from ensuring the implementation of the recommendations of the Sri Lanka’s Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commi-ssion (LLRC).
Voting is scheduled for March 22 in Geneva.
After the conference, Mr Stalin may call on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and submit a memorandum demanding that India vote against the Island nation at the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC).
A galaxy of political leaders of different political hues is expected to attend the conference. Ghulamnabi Azad of the Congress may take part in the conference.
