AIADMK MPs meet PM on Jaya security
The escalation of the war of words between the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) over the security of Ms Jayalalitha, has led the AIADMK MPs to seek the Prime Minister’s intervention.
Ever since the huge success of the rallies conducted by the AIADMK in Coimbatore and Tiruchi, speculation has been rife that the DMK is leaving no stone unturned to ensure that Ms Jayalalitha is cut down to size. Added to that, Jaya Television Network received letters threatening Ms Jayalalitha if she were to arrive in Madurai for the proposed public meeting in Madurai. The letters had originated from Madurai — the constituency of Union minister and son of the chief minister, Mr Azhagiri. Madurai is considered to be Mr Azhagiri’s fiefdom. In pursuance of receiving the threatening letters, the police complaints were preferred by the AIADMK camp. The office-bearers also made representations to the Tamil Nadu home secretary and the chief secretary requesting them to investigate the case and also increase the security of Ms Jayalalitha. As that did not yield any satisfactory result, the AIADMK MPs decided to knock the door of the central government.
As part of that strategy, all the AIADMK MPs, numbering 14, called on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and home minister P. Chidambaram and submitted a memorandum detailing the threat being faced by their leader Ms Jayalalitha.
