AIADMK prays for Jaya’s win

An elaborate Satha Chandi Maha Yagam to propitiate Badrakali is underway at Manapakkam in the city for “ensuring a magnificent victory” for AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa in the Assembly election. Kancheepuram district party chairman M. Kamaraj says he is conducting this yagam “to invoke divine blessings for Ms Jayalalithaa to return to serve the people”.
While scores of AIADMK functionaries are sponsoring special prayers and temple rituals to make sure that Ms Jayalalithaa forms the next government, Kamaraj has launched a unique religious initiative, which began with a Maha Yaagam for 36 days (3+6=9, Ms Jayalalithaa’s lucky number) using 45 priests (4+5) from April 8. And now he has added the Satha Chandi Maha Yagam, which will go on till the votes are counted May 13.

Khurana quits Punjab post
Chandigarh, May 8: Asserting he was not involved in any illegal activities, Punjab chief parliamentary secretary (finance) Raj Khurana on Sunday resigned from the post, three days after he was arrested in a graft case.
“On the complaint of certain persons a false and frivolous case has been registered by the CBI against me,” Mr Khurana said in his resignation letter to chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. “I am not involved in any illegal activity, but I am resigning from the post on moral grounds,” he said. —PTI
