AIIMS docs perform 2nd autopsy
A team of three doctors from the All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, on Saturday completed the second autopsy on the body of dalit youth Ilavarasan, which was later transported to his native Natham village with heavy police escort.
The experts refused to divulge details of their findings and told reporters that their report would be handed over in a sealed cover to the Madras high court, which had on Friday ordered this autopsy.
D.N. Bhardwaj, Sudhir Kumar Gupta and Millo Tabin, additional professors in the department of forensic medicine and toxicology at All-India Institute of Medical Sciences, completed the autopsy in two-and-a-half hours starting at about 2.15 pm on the body preserved in the mortuary at the government hospital here for the last 10 days since his alleged suicide on July 4.
Ilavarasan’s body was found near the railway track with a deep head injury and his family refused to take the body alleging foul play. They would not trust the finding of the autopsy done on July 5 that it was a case of suicide.
The funeral of Ilavarasan would take place on Sunday in the presence of family lawyers and relatives. His family has decided to bury his body inside a piece of land it owns at native Natham village near here. “My son will at least now rest in peace in this small piece of land we own in the village,” said the father, Elangovan.
