Airports alerted on Vectra boss
More trouble seems to be in store for London-based NRI businessman Ravi Rishi, chairman of the Vectra Group, with the CBI planning to register more FIRs over alleged irregularities in the purchase of Tatra trucks for the Army.
The CBI on Sunday also issued a “lookout notice” — a restraint order stopping departure from India — against Mr Rishi, an accused in a case involving irregularities in the purchase of over 6,000 Tatra trucks for the Army. All airports and other exit points were put on alert to ensure that Mr Rishi does not leave the country.
“The CBI is scrutinising documents recovered during its recent searches,” an agency source said. It registered an FIR over irregularities in the purchase of Tatra trucks for the Army on Friday, and conducted searches at the offices of Tatra-Vectra Ltd at four places in New Delhi, Noida and Bengaluru, in which some incriminating documents were recovered.
“Scrutiny of the documents is still going on. The possibility of registering more FIRs in the Tatra trucks deal cannot be ruled out”, a source said. Mr Ravi Rishi may be called for questioning again on Monday, a CBI official said.
The CBI move comes two days after Army Chief Gen. V.K. Singh sent it his complaint in which he confirmed that Lt. Gen. Tejinder Singh (Retd), a former head of the Defence Intelligence Agency, had allegedly offered him an unspecified amount as a bribe for clearing a consignment of Tatra trucks in 2010. CBI officials will seek further details from Gen. Singh before deciding on its next steps.
