Aiyar: Will keep quiet till Oct. 15
Rajya Sabha MP Mani Shankar Aiyar, who hit the limelight on Tuesday for his unsavoury remarks on the Commonwealth Games, on Thursday, said, he would open his mouth on the issue only after October 15, the day when the event gets over. He also informed that he has been advised to keep mum till the Games get over.
Speaking to reporters outside Parliament, Mr Aiyar said, “Now that everybody is talking about it, I think, now I do not need to say anything more and I have promised that I will keep my mouth shut because somebody asked me to do so, as they will successfully organise the Commonwealth Games. Now, I will open my mouth on October 15.”
Maintaining that his criticism of the Commonwealth Games 2010 was nothing new, the Congress leader said, “I have been taking this stand for the last two years. I wonder why there has been a hue and cry on the issue two days back.”
Mr Aiyar, however, contended that he was very delighted to know that the whole country was aware of what he had been saying for long time. When asked if he would stick to his stand, he shot back, “Have you ever seen me not sticking to my stand?”
Taking a dig at Indian Olympic Association head Suresh Kalmadi for calling him “anti-national”, Mr Aiyar said, “Whoever has said this, his talks are a matter of jest.”
Denying that there was any gag order from the party against him, Mr Aiyar said, “The party high command has not told me anything. This is my own decision that when my views on the issue are being heard in all households, then what is the need to issue more statements.”
