Ajit Pawar goes by uncle Pawar’s script
The story of Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar’s resignation has ended for now with an ending scripted by his uncle, Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar. Ajit Pawar’s resignation is being forwarded to chief minister Prithviraj Chavan while the resignations of the 19 other MLAs who were insisting that Mr Ajit Pawar continue in office have been rejected.
The conclusion came after a sequence of three meetings between the NCP brass. The day began with a meeting at CJ House on Napean Sea Road between Sharad Pawar, Ajit Pawar and Praful Patel. Pawar’s daughter, MP Supriya Sule, was also present. A meeting at Yashwantrao Chavan Pratishthan between these leaders and other party seniors, such as state president Madhukar Pichad and senior ministers Chhagan Bhujbal, R.R. Patil, Jayant Patil, Babanrao Pachpute and Assembly Speaker Dilip Valse Patil, followed.
The final scene was a meeting of these leaders with NCP and Independent MLAs supporting the party at the Vidhan Sabha. At this meeting, Mr Ajit Pawar said he did not wish to remain a minister until his name is cleared of the charges levelled against him, according to a person present there.
