Akhilesh on image-building mission

UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav is now embarking on an image building mission for himself and his government.

The chief minister, who has been facing considerable flak for the poor law and order situation in the state, now wants to highlight the work done by his government in the past one year.
Short films highlighting the various welfare schemes of the state government and their impact on the target beneficiaries are being prepared and these will be shown on huge LED screens that will be installed at vantage locations.
The first such screens will be installed in Lucknow at three places — the Kalidas Marg crossing near the chief minister’s official residence, the Hazratganj crossing which is the main city centre and the KGMC crossing which is the gateway to the old city areas.
After Lucknow, the LED screens will be put up in other districts and then into the rural areas as well. “Through these short films we will be showing the success stories that have emerged due to the government welfare schemes, including distribution of laptops, Kanya Vidya Dhan Yojana and unemployment allowances,” said a senior official.
While the short films have been prepared by the state information department, the LED screens that will measure 54 square metres will be put up by the UP Electronics Limited. Each LED screen will cost an estimated Rs 72 lakhs and will be operated through Wi-Fi through a centrally located control room.
“The LED screens can also be operated through a pen drive and we plan to use these screens later to transmit government information to the public,” the officer added.
It is noteworthy that publicity through LED screens has been done in Gujarat and Maharashtra and the response has been very positive.
“We usually publicise our schemes through newspaper and TV commercials but LED screens have a better recall value and are more attractive,” the officer said.
Apparently, the chief minister is keen to refurbish the government’s image before the Lok Sabha elections and wants to convey to the people that his government has worked for the welfare of the people in the past one year.
