Akhilesh for IT city in Lucknow
With a tech-savvy chief minister at the helm of affairs, Uttar Pradesh is gradually tuning over a new leaf. A proposal for an information technology city on the outskirts of Lucknow has been finalised and about 100 acres of land on the government owned Gajaria farms has been earmarked for the project.
According to industrial development commissioner Anil Kumar Gupta, a concept note for the IT city project is being prepared with inputs from the departments of tourism, IT and electronics and animal husbandry (that owns the land) and the final Cabinet sanction is expected within six weeks.
The proposed IT city in Lucknow will accommodate offices and residential spaces, along with a hotel property on the Gajaria farm land. It will also have a dedicated power supply system. The IT city will be directly connected to the Shaheed Path and the airport. The state government, it may be recalled, has already called for a revamp of the existing IT policy and the first draft of the new policy is expected to be ready by the end of this month. The government has hired the services of a management consultancy firm for drafting the new policy, details of which are still not known.
Meanwhile, the state government has also given the nod for a Lucknow-Agra Greenfield Expressway that will be marked by a heavy plantation drive, water bodies connecting the nearest canal for facilitating ground water recharge and eco-friendly parks to neutralise air and noise pollution along the way.
The work on the project is expected to begin later this year after the concept report and feasibility report is prepared. After the feasibility report is done, the physical survey of the 300-km stretch will be undertaken and environmental clearances will be obtained before the project gets going.
