Akhilesh no to maya house ‘scam’ probe
In a significant development, the Akhilesh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh has declined to initiate any probe into the alleged financial irregularities committed in the renovation of former chief minister Mayawati’s bungalow at 13, Mall Avenue in Lucknow.
The renovation of the bungalow had cost `86.56 crores and this was revealed in a reply to a RTI query submitted by senior SP leader and then Leader the of Opposition Shivpal Singh Yadav. The query was submitted last year but the reply came forth only after the formation of the Samajwadi Party government in Uttar Pradesh.
Replying to a question put up by SP MLA Ravidas Mehrotra in the state Assembly on Thursday, state minister for protocol Abhishek Misra said that an amount of `86.56 crores was spent on maintenance and `20.09 lakhs on electrical work in Ms Mayawati’s bungalow.
The minister said that the government will not initiate any inquiry into the so-called renovation of the bungalow since it had not received any complaint in this regard. Besides, the minister said, financial irregularities were not detected in the works as no audit of the same was done.
