Akhilesh plans lessons in good behaviour for cops
The UP police will soon get lessons in good behaviour. Chief minister Akhilesh Yadav wants the men in khaki to be the polite and sensitive while dealing with the public.
Senior citizens, women, girls and physically challenged persons, in particular, have complained of rude behaviour by cops from time to time.
According to director-general of police (DCP) A.C. Sharma, the department has been receiving complaints of bad behaviour by the cops which has necessitated the idea of training the police force in good behaviour.
“Initially we will train policemen from Noida and Lucknow districts and if the idea succeeds, it will be extended to all police training schools,” the DGP said.
IG, Lucknow zone Subhash Chandra has been entrusted with the task of preparing training module with the help of university sociologist and psychologists in this regard.
The DGP said that though the course curriculum had not been decided yet, but the emphasis on good behaviour would be done through lectures by professors, journalists and people from different walk of lives. After the training, the cops would be required to take an online test to assess the extent of their learning. Those who fail the test would be given another round of training.
Constables, head constables and sub-inspectors, who have direct interaction with the public, would be given this training.
The DGP further said a circular has been issued to concerned officials not to put up unnecessary barriers for checking and in the days to come besides senior officials, team of anti-corruption department would be asked to carry out surprise checks in view of complaints of undue harassment by cops during such exercises.
