Akhilesh sees conspiracy in faizabad riots

Even as the communal violence hit Faizabad district limped back to normalcy on Monday, UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav on Monday claimed that there was a conspiracy behind the communal riots.
The chief minister said that the riots were pre-planned and he would soon expose the names of those responsible for the clashes.
“Everyone knows who are responsible for the clashes and they will be severely punished,” he said.
Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had also said on Sunday that the riots were part of a very “large conspiracy”.
Meanwhile, Faizabad gradually limped back to normalcy and curfew was relaxed for four hours during the day to enable people to purchase essential commodities.
Schools, colleges and educational institutions, however, will continue to be closed until further orders are issued.
SSP Faizabad Ramit Sharma told reporters that 49 persons have been booked so far in connection with last week’s violence.
Additional director general of police (law & order) Jag Mohan Yadav, who has been camping in the violence-hit city since last week, said the perpetrators of the violence and those who fanned communal tension would be booked under the National Security Act (NSA).

‘No justice for ’84 riot victims’
AGE CORRESPONDENT
NEW DELHI, OCT. 29:

Justice still not in sight for the victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, as a group of prominent personalities on Monday demanded that the perpetrators be punished and the cases be reinvestigated by a SIT monitored by the Supreme Court.
Ahead of the 28th anniversary of the riots, the group issued an open letter stating that no action has been taken against the accused even seven years after the Nanavati Commission report. The group, including Justice V.R. Krishna Iyer, Fali Nariman, Justice Ajit Singh Bains, Justice Rajinder Sachar, veteran journalist Kuldip Nayar, Shanti Bhushan and Prashant Bhushan, demanded a special investigation team must be constituted by officers from outside Delhi Police and the investigation should be monitored by the Supreme Court.
“Ensure punishment to the culprits, who are responsible for killing innocent citizens, and for this purpose reopen and reinvestigate all those cases which have been closed by the police or which have resulted in acquittal due to faulty investigation or non production of material witnesses,” they said.
They also said that the scope of investigation must be enlarged to cover all those states where Sikhs were killed but not reported and demanded that a law dealing with communal and sectarian violence must be enacted.
