Akhilesh wants court action on BSP men
The Akhilesh Yadav government is waiting for the court to order a CBI inquiry into charges of corruption against two former BSP ministers, Naseemuddin Siddiqui and Ramvir Upadhyay, both of whom have been indicted by the UP Lokayukta.
The government is sitting on the recommendations of the Lokayukta who is himself is “surprised” at the delay in recommending CBI probe against the two.
According to Samajwadi sources, the chief minister feels that any action against the two former ministers will be seen as an attempt in witch-hunting and will invite allegations of political vendetta against the government.
“We certainly don’t want to be accused of political vendetta but if someone files public interest litigation and the court orders a CBI probe against the two, we will certainly approve and cooperate,” said a senior SP minister.
The government’s present position is a deviation from the Samajwadi Party manifesto and the promise that its leaders made in their election speeches in which they assured the voters that the corrupt will be sent to jail.
“This is not a deviation but a filtering of priorities. Our priority is to speed up development and action against the corrupt persons can go along side by side. We are not concentrating our energies on political vendetta,” the minister added.
