All-party team to visit Kashmir
New Delhi, Sept. 15: An all-party delegation will visit Kashmir to study the situation there after a month of street violence has claimed closed to 100 lives.
The dates will be decided later, according to decision reached at a meeting of leaders of all political parties held in New Delhi on Wednesday.
The feedback received from the delegation would form an important input into the government's evolving response on various issues related to the state, said an official statement released after the meeting.
"Everything will be done to honour sentiments and feelings of people of Kashmir within the framework of Indian Constitution," said home minister P. Chidambaram.
The PDP leader, Ms Mehbooba Mufti, who attended the meeting, said that the issue of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act came up for discussion. A decision would be taken later, she said.
The meeting, attended by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi, top BJP leaders L.K. Advani, Nitin Gadkari, Sushma Swaraj, National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah and leaders from other parties, has been convened to discuss steps to address the situation in the state.
