In UP, Amar Singh hits turbulent weather

Former Samajwadi leader Amar Singh is heading for a turbulent phase in politics.
A statement he made in Allahabad on Sunday has left his detractors baying for his blood and his allies making their displeasure very clear.
The four Samajwadi MLAs who had extended their support to Mr Amar Singh are also having second thought about continuing their relationship with the high-profile po

litician and are yearning to return to the parent party.
Trouble for Mr Amar Singh began brewing on Sunday when he stated at a public function that, “Mera zinda rehna utna zaroori nahin hai jitna Mulayam ka marna (My living on is not as important as Mulayam’s death).”
The statement not only had the Samajwadi Party up in arms but even his ally, the Peace Party, is rather upset at the tone and tenor of Mr Singh’s speech.
In a statement emailed to the media, the spokesman of the Peace Party said that the party does not endorse Mr Singh’s personal comments against any leader.
“The Peace Party believes in maintaining ethics and morality in public life and respect for its political adversaries. Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav is a national leader, who deserves all the respect. The Peace Party distances itself from the personal comments by Mr Amar Singh against his political opponent, Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav from its platform. The party believes that political ideologies may differ but certain standards in public life have to be maintained,” the statement said.
Samajwadi leaders, who did not wish to be named, also said that Mr Amar Singh had crossed all limits of ‘decency and probity in public life’ and demanded an apology for his utterances against Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav.
“If Amar Singh does not submit an unconditional apology, he will face our ire in every district of UP that he visits in the coming days,” said a senior SP leader.
Meanwhile, the four SP MLAs who had supported Mr Amar Singh when he was expelled from the Samajwadi Party earlier this year, are now doing some rethinking on continuing with his All-India Lok Manch.
The four MLAs — Sandeep Agarwal, Madan Chauhan, Ashok Chandel and Sarvesh Kumar Singh — were later suspended from the Samajwadi Party for supporting Mr Amar Singh.
“We have realised that there is no political future with Amar Singh and we will finalise our future course of action when we meet this week in Lucknow. The All India Lok Manch has been a non-starter and since we are in active politics , we need to look for options,” said one of the MLAs.
