Ambani exempted from court appearance

Industrialist Anil Ambani was on Thursday exempted by a special CBI court here from appearing before it on Friday to depose as a prosecution witness in the 2G spectrum allocation scam case.

The court conducting trial in the case granted the exemption hours after the Supreme Court said it would hear on Monday Mr Ambani’s plea against the lower court summons.
Special CBI Judge O.P. Saini allowed Mr Ambani’s plea seeking exemption from personal appearance on the ground that he has pre-scheduled business engagements. Mr Ambani, who was directed to appear on Friday, approached the trial court after the Supreme Court declined to give an urgent hearing to the plea of his firm Reliance Telecom Ltd (RTL) against the trial court order and posted the case for hearing on Monday.
