Ambika intervenes for media Cup coverage

On the eve of high-profile India-Pakistan World Cup match, Union information and broadcasting minister Ambika Soni has intervened in the ongoing crisis between the electronic media and the ICC, after the media was barred from covering Wednesday’s event.

Sources stated that the I&B minister has spoken to ICC chief Sharad Pawar seeking his help to allow the media cover the World Cup. The minister has also written a letter to Mr Pawar requesting him to allow the electronic media to cover the event as was the case earlier. “Soni has also assured to hold a meeting of the stakeholders on March 31 to resolve any further differences between the two,” sources added.
The step comes after representatives from various channels met the minister on Tuesday. The ICC on Monday night barred the electronic media from covering the remaining matches of the cricket World Cup for alleged breach of media guidelines. The ICC directive is supposed to be applicable to both the semi-finals in Colombo and Mohali and the final in Mumbai.
Earlier on Tuesday, the News Broadcasters Association issued a directive to its members to desist from accessing ongoing cricket World Cup venues, including Mohali.
