Ananth faces resentment in BJP
Resentment brews in the BJP over its chief Nitin Gadkari’s move to give charge of the organisation to senior leader and national general secretary Ananth Kumar while he holidays with his family in Europe. Mr Kumar has also been given the charge to resolve the Jharkhand issue in consultation with the top brass.
Sources in the party disclosed that some of the senior leaders are upset with Mr Gadkari for overlooking their political experience and contribution to the party and instead giving the charge of the party to Mr Kumar.
It could be mentioned here that Mr Gadkari had to face ire of party colleagues when he had announced his team. His team was dubbed as “imbalanced” with several senior party leaders publicly criticising him for overlooking their experience in the political field.
A section within the party is already miffed over Mr Gadkari holidaying in Europe while urgent issues, including the political crisis in Jharkhand as well as filling of key organisational posts, are still pending. This section is also of the view that Mr Gadkari’s absence from the political field at a time like this would send a wrong signal to the party cadre that Mr Gadkari is not showing keen interest on urgent party matters.
While Mr Gadkari announced his team more than two months back, key organisational posts, including that of states in-charge, are yet to be filled. So far, the only state in-charge the party had announced was that of Bihar. Mr Ananth Kumar was appointed in-charge of Bihar a day after Mr Gadkari left for his Europe trip, appointing Mr Kumar as the second-in-command in the party in his absence.
