Andhra Pradesh cabinet to meet twice a month
Hyderabad: Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday assured his ministerial colleagues that he would convene the Cabinet meeting once in 15 days and take everyone on board before announcing major decisions or schemes.
The CM appears to have adopted a “give and take” approach, which ensured smooth conduct of the Cabinet meeting, which lasted for three-and-a-half hours.
Contrary to their tough public posture on the eve of the Cabinet meet, several dissident ministers, including Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha and PCC president and transport minister Botsa Satyanarayana seemed to have mellowed down at the meeting. Kiran Kumar Reddy, who held discussions with several ministers over the last two days, pre-empted any criticism by the dissident ministers with his opening remarks, declaring that the Cabinet meeting would henceforth be held every alternate Friday.
After several ministers raised doubts over the ‘Bangarutalli’ scheme, meant for protection and empowerment of the girl child, the CM announced the constitution of a Cabinet sub-committee to formulate guidelines for effective implementation of the scheme. The PCC chief said that the ministers too were not clear as it was announced suddenly without any consultation having taken place. Panchayat raj minister K. Jana Reddy wondered how the government could arrange finances for such a mega scheme.
He even cautioned the government against misuse of funds as in the case of Jalayagnam. IT minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, however, took exception to Mr Jana Reddy’s comments against Jalayagnam which, he said, would have provided the best results had successive governments given it importance.
