Andhra Pradesh can save Rs 7,500 cr-worth electricity a year: Expert

Visakhapatnam: Chief Executive Officer of the State Energy Conservation Mission A. Chandra Sekhara Reddy on Saturday said here that Andhra Pradesh wasn't able to produce enough electricity because of insufficient supply of coal and gas, and depleted reservoirs, but proper use could save a lot of electricity.
As per a state-appointed committee, 15,000 million units can be saved annually, saving Rs 7,500 crore. In domestic usage alone 4,200 million units can be saved a year, he added.
Against the installed capacity of 16,334 mw per year, the actual production was only about 10,000 mw, due to lack of fuels like coal, natural gas and depleting water levels in reservoirs (which feed hydro-electricity projects).
On the other hand, AP's per capita consumption of electricity went up from 575 units to 1050 units in the last seven years, with daily demand increasing to 300 million units from the earlier 160 million units, he said.
