Angry BJP says Rahul immature
The main Opposition BJP on Wednesday attacked AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi for showing “political immaturity” and “engaging in unruly behaviour” by comparing Sangh Parivar fountainhead RSS with banned outfit Simi. The party said Mr Gandhi seems to have “lost his mental balance” for comparing a nationalist institution with a banned outfit. The RSS asked the AICC general secretary to “brush up his knowledge” before making “meaningless” statements.
Both the RSS and BJP were reacting to Mr Gandhi’s statement made in Bhopal describing the RSS as “fanatical” and that it was no different from banned outfit Simi and both hold “fundamentalist” views.
Senior BJP leader and national spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said “Only a sick mind can do it (compare RSS to Simi). He seems to have lost his mental balance. The RSS is an institution of nationalist thought while Simi has been banned by Congress, it was banned by the NDA as well when it was in power.” The BJP leader insisted that the RSS had served the nation during crises in the past and its contribution to the country was immense. “Rahul Gandhi has shown political immaturity and engaged in unruly behaviour,” Mr Javadekar said.
Another party leader and national general secretary Dharmendra Pradhan claimed the RSS played a “big role in the cultural and political development of India. India’s first home minister (Sardar Patel) had invited the RSS to participate in the first Republic Day parade.”
Reacting to the issue, RSS leader Ram Madhav said: “Rahul Gandhi should know the difference between the RSS and banned outfits and know the history of the Congress, which has been accused of fundamentalism in the last six decades.”
