Anil makes a 2G call on CBI
New Delhi, Feb. 16: The CBI, probing the 2G spectrum scam, on Wednesday quizzed Mr Anil Ambani, chairman of Reliance ADAG, in connection with the alleged role of his company in promoting Swan Telecom.
According to sources, the CBI officials asked him to clarify the role played by former telecom minister, Mr A. Raja, in awarding licences for CDMA-based mobile service under Unified Access Service to four companies, including Reliance Communications.
Sources said, Mr Ambani was quizzed over the findings of the Comptroller and Auditor General that Swan Telecom, which got 2G licences, appeared to be acting as a front for Reliance Telecom.”
The agency is probing the links between Swan Telec-om promoter Shahid Balwa with Reliance Telecom, if any, sources added.
Balwa, before his arrest, had reportedly written to CBI saying his firm had business links with Reliance Telecom, sources added.
The CAG had calculated that RCom had a 10.71 per cent participating interest in Swan, a charge that RCom denies.
Sources said that the top brass of some other telecom firms, whose names have cropped up during the probe, would also be called for clarification.
ADAG said Mr Ambani met CBI officials to clarify ongoing issues relating to telecom matters. “No summons of any kind had been issued by CBI to Mr. Ambani,” the statement said.
