Anna plans to sue Pune charity officer

Anti-corruption crusader Anna Hazare has decided to file a defamation suit against the office of the charity commissioner of Pune for wrongly sending notices to his Ahmednagar-based trust.
On April 18, the office of the charity commissioner of Pune had sent a notice to Mr Hazare’s NGO Hind Swaraj Trust to submit the trust’s audit report trust for the years 2005 and 2007 within a span of 10 days.
Subsequently, on April 28, another showcause notice was sent to the NGO to file its stand on why criminal proceedings should not be initiated, as the trust had failed to submit the audit report in stipulated time.

Jena writes to Patnaik on mine lease

May 5: Union minister of state for chemicals and fertiliser, Srikant Jena, on Thursday wrote a letter to Orissa chief minister Naveen Patnaik suggesting him to ensure state control over mineral resources instead of leasing them out to private firms.
“The state government needs to take effective steps immediately to take charge of key mining rights under its control and prevent the drain of precious natural resources to a few corporate houses. I do agree that development of state through industrialisation is very essential by way of optimal utilisation of natural resources.

Chautala moves HC against FIR

May 5: Former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala on Thursday moved the Delhi high court seeking quashing of the FIR lodged by the CBI against him for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
After hearing the plea of Chautala, Justice Ajit Bharihoke issued notice to the respondent (CBI) for September 19.
75-year-old Chautala, an MLA from Uchana in Jind district, has sought quashing of the FIR, chargesheet and subsequent order of the lower court, which had taken cognisance of the matter.

CD shows Jogi ‘giving money’ to Bastar voters

May 5: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Thursday accused the Congress of bribing the voters to win the May 8 byelection to Bastar (ST) Lok Sabha constituency, by circulating a CD, showing former chief minister Ajit Jogi allegedly distributing money to the electorate.
The CD, which was submitted to the Election Commission (EC) by the BJP seeking appropriate action against the Congress for allegedly violating the model code of conduct, showed Mr Jogi sitting on an open van along with his supporters, and giving 100 rupee currency notes to unknown people.
