Another Durga? Officer shifted, secrecy shrouds report
Hyderabad: Fed up with not getting satisfactory replies to RTI queries seeking information about a report filed by Dr N. Kiranmayee regarding the illegal allotment of lands by the Film Nagar Cooperative Society, the Forum For Good Governance has now written to the chief secretary of agriculture and cooperative societies.
It has also threatened to approach the High Court in case of further delays. The Forum had been trying to find out through RTI queries why the official, Dr Kiranmayee, was transferred and what action has been taken by the agriculture and cooperative departments.
After several RTI applications by the Forum’s secretary, retired IFS officer Padmanabh Reddy, it received Dr Kiranmayee’s 800 page report, which apparently exposed irregularities by several prominent Tollywood producers and artistes.
The file was put on the back burner for over a year and the government has not taken any action so far. In November 2012, as a result of numerous complaints owing to irregularities in the functioning of the society, the government had suspended the managing committee of the Filmnagar Cooperative Society.
Following this Dr N. Kiranmayee, the then Hyderabad urban district cooperative officer, was appointed in-charge of the Filmnagar Cooperative Society.
After the inquiry, Dr Kiranmayee had submitted a report to the registrar and the principal secretary of agriculture and cooperative societies. However, instead of taking action on the report, she was transferred to a different department over-night.
“Such prime land, costing about Rs 2,000 crore, was allotted even without the presence of a proper plan. The report has to be considered. It says that 57 of the 88 members are not even from the film industry.
We demand that action should be taken soon, bogus members be struck down and illegal allotments be taken back,” said Mr Reddy.
