Another rhino killed in Assam
A day after Assam forest guards killed two poachers in Kaziranga National Park, a Rhino was killed and its horn was taken away by poachers in Assam’s Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary. The forest department officials said on Friday that carcass of the rhino was found on Thursday by patrolling forest guards in the sanctuary.
Pointing out that a large part of the wildlife sanctuary has been inundated in floodwater, the forest officials said that most of animals have moved to higher ground for shelter making themselves more vulnerable to poachers. The Pobitra Wildlife sanctuary has highest density of one-horn rhino. The forest guards who recovered the carcass, however, suspected that Rhino was killed at least two-three days ago, but it was spotted on Friday only.
Earlier, on Thursday two poachers were killed in a gunbattle with forest guards inside the Kaziranga National Park.
Park director N.K. Vasu, who succeeded in checking the rampant killing of Rhinos in past few months, said, “The incident took place at the Bagori forest range of the park. The poachers fired at the guards forcing them to retaliate. In the ensuing gun battle, two poachers were killed.”
