Ansari, PM pay floral tribute to Shekhawat
Vice-president Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh on Thursday paid homage to the departed former vice-president Bhairon Singh Shekhawat at a prayer meeting held at his official residence on Aurangzeb Road here. Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar and other senior ministers and leaders from the BJP and other parties also attended the prayer meeting. Mr Shekhawat had breathed his last on May 15.
As Dr Singh and the vice-president arrived at 31 Aurangzeb Road, Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt played Vaishav jan to tene kahiye je on his mohan veena, which was followed by Raghupati raghava raja ram. The meeting concluded after observance of two-minute silence. The widow of Mr Shekhawat, Suraj Kanwar, and other family members also attended the meeting.
Other senior leaders who attended the prayer meeting were Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, national BJP president Nitin Gadkari, senior BJP leader L.K. Advani, BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad, former Union minister Vijay Goel and former Rajya Sabha chairperson Najma Heptullah, besides many BJP MLAs from Delhi.
