Antony: No rift in Cabinet over AFSPA in J&K
Defence minister A.K. Antony said on Sunday that there were no differences in the Union Cabinet on the question of partial withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act in trouble-torn Kashmir.
The defence minister said this when mediapersons referred to the reported row between the defence and home ministries on withdrawing the special powers.
“There are no differences on this issue,” Mr Antony said after attending a function at the Santhigiri Ashram here. “Different points of view will come up. But once the government discusses and takes a decision, it will be final.”
Mr Antony said the developments in Kashmir were causing deep concern and added that the Cabinet committee on security affairs would discuss the issue on Monday.
“We are meeting on Monday to discuss all the issues,” he said. “The situation in Kashmir is causing anxiety.” He, however, refused to dwell on the issue. “I don’t want to create any controversy on this,” he said.
