APPSC cleared 30 ineligible candidates
Hyderabad: Thanks to the AP Public Service Commission, at least 30 “ineligible” engineering graduates were made eligible for appointment as assistant executive engineers in various government departments in spite of the candidates lacking proper certificates.
The candidates, whom the APPSC had cleared after verifying their certificates, were rejected by the engineering departments, including that of irrigation, as ineligible. If not for the alertness of these departments, the candidates would have been absorbed into government service.
Inquiries revealed that the APPSC had notified direct recruitment for AEE posts in irrigation, panchayati raj, roads and buildings and public health departments (notification number 41/2011 and 31/2011). As there were no oral interviews, the APPSC held verification of certificates for candidates who had cleared the written test and had accordingly issued letters to the respective departments to appoint them as AEEs.
Some candidates had even submitted certificates stating that they had pursued engineering through distance education mode though the All India Council for Technical Education. The AP State Council of Higher Education had however banned distance education engineering and had informed the authorities concerned not to entertain such certificates for government service appointments.
When contacted, APPSC chairman C.R. Biswal confirmed he had received complaints against the verification process and an inquiry had been ordered into the involvement of commission staff, if any. “In several cases, the commission rejected distance education certificates. In a few cases, the candidates produced certificates issued by the JNTU and got through,” Biswal said.
