Armed robbery foiled; one held
A commercial locality in Masjid Bunder was witness to a violent drama, after four men barged into a store, robbed it at gunpoint and started fleeing with the loot on Wednesday night. The ruckus, however, caught the attention of some policemen on bandobast nearby, and one of the thieves was caught. The police has launched a manhunt for the remaining three.
According to the Pydhonie police, the quartet barged into S.K. Traders, a sewing machine shop on Kazi Sayed Street in Masjid at around 8.30 pm on Wednesday. The accused were armed with knives and country made guns. The owner, Shivshankar Satyanarayan (36), was assaulted and held at gunpoint, after which the robbers stripped him of his gold jewellery worth `45,000 and also took `4,400 from the cash register before fleeing the scene. Mr Satyanaranan followed them out, shouting for help.
“The noise attracted the attention of some constables who were posted on Ganeshotsav bandobast nearby. The policemen managed to catch one of them, recovering a county-made revolver from him, while the other three managed to flee,” said Pascal D’souza, senior police inspector, Pydhonie police station.
The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammed Nurul,
while the absconding accused have been identified as Asif Sheikh, Alim Sheikh and Jaan Mohammed. They have all been booked under Sections 394, 323 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code. Nurul has been remanded to police custody till October 3, and is being interrogated.
