Army Chief briefed on situation
Army Chief Gen. Bikram Singh was on Wednesday briefed about the security situation along the LoC and International Border with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of Tuesday’s deadly ambush by Pakistani troops and terrorists in Poonch sector. The Army Chief, along with senior commanders of various formations of the Northern Command, was briefed by senior Army officers led by GoC-In-C of Northern Command Lt. Gen. Sanjeev Chachra and GOC, 16 Corps, Lt. Gen. D.S. Hooda at Nagrota, the headquarters of 16 Corps, on the outskirts of Jammu town. He was also given a detailed account of the recent ceasefire violations and infiltration bids made along the LoC.
Soon after his arrival from New Delhi earlier on Wednesday morning, Gen Bikram Singh laid wreaths on the coffins of the slain soldiers in Jammu. Army sources said that some of its senior commanders have strongly recommended a probe into the circumstances.
