Army, IAF chiefs, Navy vice-chief before PAC
The chiefs of the Indian Army and Air Force on Wednesday attended a meeting called by the Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee (PAC) to discuss a CAG report on defence rations that was tabled before Parliament last year. The Army Chief, Gen. V.K. Singh, the IAF Chief, Air Chief Marshal P.V. Naik, and Indian Navy vice-chief Vice-Admiral D.K. Dewan gave a presentation before the PAC on the rations supplied to troops. The PAC asked for clarification from the armed forces following which the
armed forces top brass said they would hold discussions among themselves and then revert back to the PAC with the clarification.
A CAG report tabled last year had mentioned that rations unfit for human consumption — flour, sugar, rice, tea, pulses, and edible oils well past their expiry dates — were supplied to troops under the Army’s crucial Northern and Western Commands.
The PAC also reportedly made some suggestions to the services top brass for improvement in the supply system of rations to troops and the armed forces have promised to study these in detail, sources said.
