Army officer injured in Sopore encounter dies

An Army captain, who was injured in an encounter with militants in Sopore town of Baramulla district, succumbed to injuries on Wednesday.

The army officer was injured when militants opened indiscriminate firing on security forces, who had launched an operation in Model Town area of Sopore, 52 kms from here, last evening.

The captain was shifted to 92 Base Hospital here for treatment where he succumbed to his wounds. The Army is yet to identify him. The encounter is still on and at least two Lashkar militants are suspected to be hiding in a house in the area.
