Army rules out face-off with Bastar Maoists
Army on Tuesday ruled out any confrontation with Maoists, if the proposed training centre of the army comes up in Chhattisgarh’s Abujhmad forest, considered the Naxal headquarters.
“I don’t think that any such contingency will arise there. Naxals are our people. We will exercise maximum restraint in case of attack from their side,” chief of Army’s central command Lt. Gen. V.K.S.Ahluwalia told reporters here after making an aerial survey of the proposed training centre in Abujhmad forest.
He said the Army has been provided 500 sq km area in Narayanpur district by the Chhattisgarh government to establish the training school for improving its proficiency in counter-insurgency and jungle warfare.
The Abujhmad forest has been found to be the best suitable place for the purpose as far as terrain and climate condition are concerned for operational preparedness of the Army in jungle warfare.
“The training will be restricted to manoeuvres with no firing drills,” he said.
