Armymen make daring rescue
An Army helicopter performed a daring rescue of stranded persons near Mangan in north Sikkim on Wednesday which saw two Brigadiers on board jump 10 feet to the ground so that the stranded persons could be airlifted to safety, sources said. The Cheetah helicopter belonging to the Army Aviation wing — with two pilots and two Brigadiers on board — was on a flight when it saw a
group of stranded persons on the ground. The helicopter descended but could not land as there was no place to do so. Further, the capacity of the helicopter was only four. The helicopter then hovered over the ground.
It was then that the two Brigadiers decided that the chopper should airlift those affected by the earthquake. They asked the pilots to open the door and both the senior officers jumped 10 ft. to the ground. With the help of some uniformed paramilitary personnel on the ground, some of the stranded persons were hoisted on to the chopper and airlifted to safety.
