Arrested MHA ‘mole’ suspended
The Indian Administrative Services (IAS) officer, arrested on charges of leaking information to corporates, Ravi Inder Singh, has been placed under suspension.
According to sources the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) will also initiate administrative action against the officer.
Mr Singh, a 1994 batch West Bengal cadre officer, was arrested on November 23, and later sent to the Delhi police custody for six days.
He was posted as director in the internal security division of the home ministry and had allegedly leaked information to a telecom company for illegal gratification.
A high ranking official said, “Singh was under surveillance of Delhi police’s Special Cell for more than a month and his office and residence were searched before his arrest. He was arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act and on the charges of criminal conspiracy.”
A businessman from West Bengal, who was allegedly acting as a broker on behalf of Mr Singh, was also picked up from a five-star hotel, recently.
The businessman was allegedly trying to fix a deal with a telecom company on behalf of Mr Singh for providing security-related information from the ministry in return for a few crores rupees, said the official.
