‘Arunachal integral part of India’

Senior BJP leader L.K. Advani here on Thursday said that scams dogging the UPA government is tarnishing India’s image abroad, but the “indecisiveness” of the ruling Congress Party in taking effective steps against corruption has resulted in “misrule and price rice”.

Addressing a rally organised here at Sonaram Field Mr Advani said, “The UPA government is making announcement to curb the corruption and price rise but nobody has been able to see it being executed on the ground.”
He said, “The CWG, 2G spectrum, Mumbai Adarsh Housing scam involving defence land are among eight major scams which have been tarnishing the hard-earned image of India globally.”
Referring to instances Mr Advani said that the ruling Congress has many excuses for its failure but failed to take any visible step to root out corruption which has resulted in misrule and price rise at the cost of the people.
He said after the economic meltdown, western countries like Germany, the US and France had pressured Switzerland to disclose the identities of depositors through the UN Convention Against Corruption, which led the Swiss government to open up in 2009.
“I was the first to write a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to avail of the opportunity and also pressurise Switzerland to get back `25 lakh crores stashed in banks there as assessed by the party’s four-member task force, but the UPA government took no step,” he said.
Once the black money was brought back to the country, 6,000 villages, many lacking basic necessities like water, electricity, roads and health facilities, would witness a sea-change and help in building a new Bharat,” MrAdvani said.
Earlier, addressing the Jan Chetna Yatra at Naharlagun in Arunachal Mr Advani said, “Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India even though China may repeatedly stake claim on this frontier state.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
