ARUNACHAL may see split in congress

The deadlock over the leadership crisis may lead to a split in the ruling Congress Party in Arunachal Pradesh, with Pradesh Congress Committee president Nabam Tuki exploring the idea of forming the government with outside support.

Disclosing that PCC chief Nabam Tuki has roped in at least 22 Congress legislators out of 42 in the 60-member Assembly of Arunachal Pradesh, the Congress insiders said that the AICC’s attempt to pacify veteran leader has failed so far.
The AICC leaders who met Mr Tuki in New Delhi offered him the post of deputy chief minister in the Jarbom Gamlin government but two Congress MPs, Mukut Mithi and Sanjay Takam, who accompanied him in the meeting, vehemently opposed the idea and insisted on replacing Mr Gamlin.
In fact, the Tuki camp, which is in New Delhi with 22 legislators, has threatened to revolt against the Congress high command if their demands are not met.
