Arvind hijacking Cong plank?
Activist Arvind Kejriwal is trying to hijack the Congress’ “aam aadmi” plank by targeting certain individuals in power positions. But he is not touching regional heavyweights like Mayawati, Mamata Banerjee, Jayalalithaa, Mulayam Singh Yadav and Narendra Modi after realising that it could be counter-productive.
The Congress had defeated the NDA in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections on the “aam aadmi” card when the BJP was confident of retaining power. It had even coined election slogans of “India Shining” and “Feel Good” at that time to check the Congress’ common man plank.
But inflation, corruption and big ticket reforms appear to have taken the Congress far away from the common man if one goes by the outcome of a number of Assembly elections held after 2009 general elections.
Team Kejriwal claims that it represents “aam aadmi” and has the slogan, “desh ke neta kaisa ho, aam aadmi jaisa ho”, but it has not fought any election as yet.
Mr Kejriwal’s campaign has so for remained Delhi-based.
This is ensuring him wide coverage in the media.
He is threatening to expose five top politicians in the coming days.
